CNN Business recently reported that Aldi, the German discount grocery chain, is upending the American supermarket landscape. With its cult-like following, hard-to-beat bargain basement prices, and its expected growth to 2,500 stores in the States by the end of 2022, it is on target to become the third largest U.S. supermarket chain just behind Walmart and Kroger. According to the story, Aldi has taken on an aggressive growth strategy that challenges not only Walmart but with an eye on the more upscale shopper as well. And with $1.9 billion allotted to remodel 1,300 stores with natural lighting and revitalized meat, produce, and dairy sections, the German retailer means business.
